Pupil Premium
Pupil Premium is additional funding given to publicly-funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged students. Research shows that students from deprived backgrounds underachieve compared to their non-deprived peers. This additional funding is provided in order to support these disadvantaged students in reaching their potential by accelerating their progress.
The government use students who are or have been eligible for Free Schools Meals (FSM) as an indicator of deprivation. Schools receive a fixed amount of money per student based, based on the number of students who receive or have received FSM. Schools also receive further funding for students who are looked after by the local authority, are adopted or are children of service personnel – HM Armed Forces.
We will regularly seek to further develop strategies and interventions which can improve the progress and attainment of these students. Examples of the range of provision we may put in place include:
- Funding of private music tuition for FSM students
- Funding support for enrichment trips and opportunities
- Focused tuition in English and Maths
- Individualised support for students, where required
- Increasing the pool of student resources (textbooks, revision guides, online support)
- Small group intervention work
